OSWEGO -- M. Marcella Braley, 89, of Oswego died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Labette Health.
She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in rural Bartlett to Luther A. and Eva (Thompson) Wiley.
She graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1939. She received her teaching certificate from Pittsburg State Teachers College and later earned her master's from Pittsburg State University.
She taught rural school at Liggett and Ellis and taught at Oswego schools for 40 years.
She married Gene Braley on Nov. 25, 1942. He preceded her in death in April 1996. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, arts and crafts and quilting.
She was a member of Oswego Presbyterian Church and the Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club. She was a charter member of the Oswego Arts Society.
Survivors include four sisters, Imogene Miller of Bernice, Okla., Wintress Stine of Bartlesville, Okla., Darlene Thomas of Bartlesville, Okla., and Luvonne Hucke of Mound Valley; a sister-in-law, Betty Wiley of Oswego; and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Barr; and a brother, Milan Wiley.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Oswego Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Lake Creek Cemetery, Bartlett. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Murdock Funeral Home, Oswego.
Memorials are suggested to Oswego Presbyterian Church and can be left at the funeral home.
Bobbie D. Guy
COLUMBUS -- Bobbie D. Guy, 74, of Columbus died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
He was born June 3, 1934, in Cherokee County to James D. and Etta T. (Smith) Guy. He graduated from Cherokee County Community High School in 1952.
He married Betty L. Gatewood on July 2, 1953, in Columbus. He was a farmer for 52 years, retiring in 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; a son, Jim Guy of Columbus; two daughters, Jan Locke of Erie and Bobbi Koons of Columbus; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, O'Dell Allen and Peggy VanCura.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and after the service at the home of Bobbi Koons, 841 N.E. Bethlehem Road, Columbus.
Charles V. 'Chuck' Shaw
CARMICHAEL, Calif. -- Charles V. "Chuck" Shaw, 92, of Carmichael, Calif., formerly of Galesburg, died at 11:55 a.m. at Aegis of Carmichael Assisted Living Facility in Carmichael, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Shaw, on Sept. 16, 2004.
