COLUMBUS — John L. Presnall, 69, of rural Columbus died in his home on Saturday, June 28, 2012, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1942, in Beaver, Okla., to Johnnie B. and Edna M. (Bartel) Presnall. He graduated from Ford High School in Ford.

He married Barbara Arensdorf on Jan. 18, 1964.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University and began his teaching and coaching career at USD 468 in Healy. He moved his family to Chetopa in 1980 and was the junior and senior high principal. He achieved a master’s degree in secondary education from Pittsburg State University in 1982.

After retiring from the Chetopa school district in 1999, he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, watching football and occasionally visiting casinos.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Barbara; two sons and their families, John Presnall II and his wife, Whitney, and their daughters, Corrin and Chloe of Diboll, Texas, and Joe Presnall and his wife, Kacie, and their children, Corey, Garrett, Payton and Jaylee, of Republic, Mo.; and a sister, Patricia Presnall of Alpine, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Presnall, all of Perryton, Texas.

The memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galena.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, 1120 Pennsylvania, Kansas City, KS 64105.
