Helen L. Stacy, 89, of Parsons died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, in the emergency room at Labette Health. She had been in failing health.

She was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Burden to Maurice and Rosa (Hall) Hall. She grew up in Burden and moved with her family at age 10 to Winfield, where she graduated from Winfield High School in 1941. 

She worked in a doctor’s office before moving to Maine, where she lived two years. She lived in El Paso, Texas, for two years before returning to Winfield. She also lived in Pratt for a time before returning to Winfield. In 1970, she moved to Parsons, where she was employed by the Parsons Co-op from 1970 to 1981 and later at the city of Parsons in the Water Department as bookkeeper from April 1981 through May 1988. She then worked as a teller at Commercial Bank in Parsons until retiring in 2006.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Parsons, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.  In earlier years, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed knitting and making pies, and was fondly known to many as the Parsons pie lady. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She married Tom Smith June 28, 1942, in Winfield. He preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1989. On Feb. 7, 2004, she married Donald C. Stacy Sr. He survives.

Other survivors include two stepsons, Donald "Mike" Stacy Jr. and Mark Anthony Stacy, both of Pilot Point, Texas; two stepdaughters, Mary Louise Stacy and Michele Stacy, both of Salem, Ore.; three grandsons, Rick Smith and his wife, Meredith, Mike Smith and his wife, Amy, all of Parsons, and Jon Smith and his wife, Kelly, of Blue Springs, Mo.; seven stepgrandchildren, Tracy Reece and her husband, Brad, of San Antonio, Texas, Melissa Sloan and Aaron Panek of Lawrence, Kimberly Gruver and Jon McDaniel of Parsons and Whitney, Zachary, Jess and Grace Stacy of Texas; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Hall of Arkansas City; a sister, Fern Kinion of Tampa, Fla.; and a daughter-in-law, Charlotte (Smith) Brown and her husband, Jack, of Parsons.

She was preceded in death by four brothers; a sister; a son, Kenneth Smith; and a great-grandson, Drew Smith.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Udall Cemetery at 3 p.m. Friday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
