Luverdia P. Porter, 72, of Parsons died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Labette Health.
She was born Aug. 1, 1939, in Parsons the daughter of Henry and Hilda (Mitchell) Nash. She had lived in Parsons for most of her life.
She was a veteran serving in the Navy.
She married Willie Joe Porter and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Porter worked as a licensed practical nurse and in records management for Sentara Hospital System in Norfolk, Va., for 32 years prior to her retirement.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three sons, Sam Horton Jr. of Greenville, S.C., Rodney Horton of Suitland, Md., and Lawrence Horton of Parsons; two daughters, Diana L. Horton-Turner of Virginia Beach, Va., and Luverdia P. Suarez of El Paso, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Nash of Virginia Beach, Va., and Henry Nash of Kansas City, Mo.; and five sisters, Lola Nash, Faith Bridgewater, both of Parsons, Zelma Farokpour of Chesapeake, Va., Ernestine Gilkey, Joy Nash, both of Wichita.
The service will be at a later date under the direction of Midland Cremation Society of Joplin.
