OSWEGO — Joy D. Bortmes, 87, of Oswego, formerly of Tulsa, died at 6 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at her home.
She was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Haskell, Okla., to Louis and Kelsie (Shinn) Hill. She grew up and attended school in Haskell, Okla., and later earned a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Tulsa.
After earning her degree, she worked for many years as a registered nurse. Through the years, she worked as a pediatric ICU nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa and also as a school nurse for Tulsa district schools until retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa. She loved reading, playing bridge and attending church.
She married Eugene M. Bortmes in 1941. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Dr. Phillip Bortmes and his wife, Kayley, David Bortmes, all of Oswego, and Clifford Bortmes and his wife, Rita, of Mounds, Okla.; and three grandchildren, Danielle Bortmes, Kristina Bortmes and Tyler Sparks.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Vernon Hill.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
