Evelyn M. Reeves, 83, of Parsons died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Elmhaven West nursing home in Parsons. She had been in failing health, but her death was unexpected.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1928, at Wichita to Clarence and Anna (Gitt) Bonnett. She grew up in the Bronaugh and Nevada, Mo., area and attended schools there. She graduated from Bronaugh High School.

She married Ernest Reeves on Dec. 3, 1949, at Nevada, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1996.

She and her husband lived in Idaho for a few years before moving to Parsons. She worked at JC Penny’s, Pfeiffer’s Jewelry, Westco and later at the Consumers grocery store, from where she retired. She worked in the bakery while at Consumers, where she was known as “The Please and Thank You Cookie Lady.”

She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and crafts. She also enjoyed raising chickens. She loved her family very much and cherished spending time with them.

Evelyn was a faithful member of Church of the Brethren at Parsons, where she served as the church secretary. She also was in the Inner Circle, where she served as the treasurer.

Survivors include four sons, Terry Reeves and his wife, Lynn, David Reeves and his wife, Jean, Bill Reeves and his wife, Jane, and Mark Reeves and his wife, Debra, all of Parsons; nine grandchildren, Sharon Campmier, Brian Reeves and his wife, Crystal, Scott Reeves and his wife, Tonya, Christy Armstrong and her husband, Todd, Chad Reeves and his wife, Stephanie, Heidi Reeves, Heather Peak and her husband, Brandon, Logan Reeves and Nichole Heady and her husband, Duane; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Brinkman.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Brethren in Parsons. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
