ERIE — Agnes L. Hinkle, 77, of Erie, formerly of rural Altamont, died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society of Parsons.
She was born Aug. 1, 1934, in Elk City to Walter E. and Leona (Darbro) Harpster. She grew up and attended school in Elk City. She moved to Independence where she lived until marriage.
In 1952, she married Paul Hinkle. Following marriage, the couple made their home in rural Altamont, where they farmed and raised their family. He preceded her in death May 24, 1994.
In 2006, Agnes moved to Erie to be near her daughter. She lived ther until moving to the nursing home, where she resided the past several months.
In earlier years, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont and the Women Aglow ladies’ group. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading the Bible and attending church.
Survivors include three sons, Ben Hinkle and his wife, Carlene, David Hinkle and his wife, Shelly, all of Altamont, Paul Hinkle Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Cherryvale; two daughters, Patsy Leuty and her husband, Bill, of Erie and Shirley Dunsing of Parsons; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Harpster of Mound Valley; and a sister, Daisy Bamberry of Mound Valley.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Harpster.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
