He was born on July 15, 1920, in Parsons to Owen L. and Gertrude (Shively) Keiter. He graduated from Parsons High School in 1938. He attended Washburn University, where he became a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the University of Kansas.
In 1941, he began employment with the M-K-T Railroad as a switchman. Later he was director of terminals and yardmaster before his retirement in 1980.
On Feb. 22, 1942, he married Janese June Moore at Washington Avenue Methodist Church. In 1980, they retired to Grand Lake, Okla., for 19 wonderful years. They returned to Parsons in 1999 and June died on Oct. 26, 2000.
George was an avid golfer and a super KU fan. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Parsons Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M., and the Mirza Shrine.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carol Lee Keiter of Lenexa; a daughter, Janese Correll of Parsons; four grandchildren, Craig Correll of Mound Valley, Barbi Correll of Parsons, Jason Keiter of Lenexa and Drew and Christine Keiter of Olathe; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb Correll and Ayanna June Correll, both of Parsons, and Olivia Keiter and Riley Keiter, both of Olathe.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery patio, with burial to follow in the family lot. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
