OVERLAND PARK — Mary Margaret Birch, 94, of Overland Park died Wednesday, May 16, 2012.

She was born on May 2, 1918, in Parsons to Charles and Margaret Potts. She graduated from Parsons High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Fontbonne College in St. Louis.

Mary Margaret married Walter W. Birch on Oct. 6, 1946.

She was a volunteer for St. Joseph Hospital and volunteered for the Johnson County Election Board. She was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roeland Park since 1962. Her family was a large part of her life, and she enjoyed playing bridge with her husband as her partner.

Survivors include three children, Margaret Ann Streeter, W. Joe Birch and John W. (Catherine) Birch; five grandchildren, Adam Streeter, Matt (Liz) Birch, David Birch, Emily Birch and Mark Birch; four great-grandchildren, Reese, Paige, Laine and Grace Birch; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter W. Birch; and a granddaughter, Alison Birch.

The memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. May 25 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Roeland Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 24 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Agnes Catholic Church.
