Lowell Alvin “Boss Hoss” Tarver Jr., 78, of Parsons died at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Elmhaven West nursing home in Parsons.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1933, in Parsons to Lowell Alvin Arcephus Tarver Sr. and Irene (Stephenson) Tarver. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons and was a graduate of Parsons High School. 

He served in the U.S. Army for two years while being stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He worked for the Katy Railroad until retirement.

On March 24, 1955, he married Velma Ree Jackson. They later divorced.

Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Waters of San Bernardino, Calif., Lydia Tarver of Wichita and Christie Tarver of San Diego; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Susan Williams.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
