She was born Feb. 14, 1920, near St. Paul to Luman Winiford and Laura Emmaline (Logsdon) Conner. She attended Brogan and Lone Elm schools near St. Paul and Liberty School near Walnut and graduated from Walnut High School.
She married Lawrence Edward “Shorty” Walsh on Feb. 6, 1940, in Walnut. He preceded her in death on Aug. 2, 1984.
She was a housewife and homemaker, and she and her husband farmed near Greenbush.
They later moved to Girard and had lived on Carline Road since 1956.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard.
Survivors include three sons, James R. Walsh and his wife, Frona, of Baxter Springs, Roger Walsh of Cherokee and Keith Walsh of Girard; three daughters, Charlotte Winterbower and her husband, Don, of Hepler, Charlene Norris and her husband, Jim, of Walnut and Vickie Billey and her husband, Ed, of Pittsburg; a daughter-in-law, Diane Walsh of Girard; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Walsh, on Nov. 17, 1998; a granddaughter, Bridgette Smith, on June 26, 1999; and two sisters, Frances Shay and Gladys Westhoff Fox.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut with the Rev. Thomas Leland as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Walnut. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard, where the family will receive friends following the rosary. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
