Ruby Winters, 84, of Parsons died at 5 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Elmhaven West nursing home in Parsons.

She was born Nov. 25, 1924, at Shawnee, Okla., to Clarence and Beulah (Echard) Ward. She grew up in the Edna area and attended school there. She had lived in Parsons all of her adult life.

She married Joe Winters in February 1943, and he preceded her in death in 1992.

She loved camping, family activities and especially being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Swayze and her husband, Harold, Judy Shears and her husband, Bob, Linda Blake and her husband, Bill, all of Parsons, and Nancy Varner and her husband, Russell, of Labette City; seven grandchildren, Billy Joe Winters Jr., David Blake, Melinda Stalford, Brandy Olivera, Corey Varner, Shawn Varner and Brian Varner; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sharon Hillis of Elk City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Joe Winters, in 1968; two brothers, Paul Kimrey and Kenneth Kimrey; and a sister, Ilene Lassen.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dennis. Friends may call at their convenience at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to Operation Bright Touch and may be left at or sent to the funeral home, Box 942, Parsons, 67357.
