LOS ALAMOS, N.M. — Clement Thomas Switlik Jr., 70, of Los Alamos, N.M., died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Los Alamos.

He was born Oct. 19, 1941, in Parsons to Clement Thomas Sr., and Margaret (Currigan) Switlik. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic School in Parsons and graduated from high school in 1959. He joined the Navy. After his service, he attended the University of Kansas, where he received a degree in zoology. He later received a master's degree and worked on a doctorate related to systems engineering and public administration.

He was an aerospace system safety engineer with the U.S. Department of Defense before he retired.

Survivors include three daughters, Sherrie Elijah-Bacon of Lincoln, Neb., Jennifer Peterson of Seattle, Wash., and Crystey Switlik of Peoria Heights, Ill.; a granddaughter; five sisters, Sister Mary Margaret, Sister Elizabeth Ann, Sister Catherine Agnes Switlik, all of Wichita, Theresa L Yoder of Denver and Cecilia J. Elliott of Sand Springs, Okla.; and six brothers, John M. of Wichita, Jim J. of Nevada, Mo., Paul A. of Mabelvale, Ark., Mark F. of Sparks, Nev., Edd E. of Fort Myers, Fla., and Lou S. of Kentwood, Mich.

The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Scott National Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association. The DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory of Espanola Valley, N.M., is in charge of arrangements.
