W. Modene Saye, 93, of Parsons died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2012, at the Elmhaven West.

She was born on May 29, 1918, at Galesburg to Wayne Waldo and Etta Ameda (Eccles) Willis. The family moved to Parsons where she grew up and attended Parsons schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1935. She graduated from Parsons Junior College in 1937.

She worked as an elementary school teacher in Parsons for a few years before moving to Portsmouth, Va., where she worked as a payroll clerk in the Naval ship yards during World War II.

She married Doyal Lee Saye Sr. on June 3, 1942, at Springfield, Mass. He preceded her on June 2, 1969.

She and her husband lived in several places around the world while he served in the United States Air Force. When he retired they moved back to Parsons in 1961.

She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening and woodworking and was past president of the Gordon Study Club and a longtime member and past president of The Ruskin Club.

Survivors include three sons, Doyal Saye Jr. and his wife, Miriam, of Dennis, Dean O. Saye and his wife, Dianne, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Daniel W. Saye and his wife, Phyllis, of Fort Scott; her daughter, Dee Webber and her husband, Newton, of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Aaron Saye, Quintin Saye, Levi Saye, Willis Saye, Tilton Saye, Austin Murrey, Danielle Saye and Michelle Heincker; 10 great-grandchildren; and Tundra, her beloved dog.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Oran and Evan Saye; and a brother, Martin Wayne Willis.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
