William H. “Bill” Hinkle, 82, of Parsons died at 11:55 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Labette Health in Parsons.

He was born March 6, 1929, at Picher, Okla., to William R. and Edna Hinkle. He grew up there and graduated from Picher High School.

He worked for Safeway stores for 35 years, serving as a store manager in Miami, Okla., and in Parsons. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and growing flowers.

Survivors include his son, William H. Hinkle Jr., and his wife, Mary, of Joplin; a daughter, Vickie Jones and her husband, Hubert, of Miami, Okla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Lou Harryman of Roseberg, Ore.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Hinkle, on Dec. 27, 2002; and his life companion of 30 years, Pauline Owens, on Aug. 18, 2009.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
