Kelly J. King, 47, of Parsons died on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at her home. She had been in her usual health, and death was not expected.

She was born on July 12, 1964, in Boise, Idaho, to Thomas John and Sharon Kay (Shields) Spease. As an infant, she moved with her family to Parsons. She attended schools in Parsons and Labette County High School in Altamont.

Through the years, she was employed by Signature Sportswear, Dwayne’s Photo Service, the Parsons Sun, Ray Products and most recently Southeast Kansas Independent Living.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons. She loved softball, fishing, camping, playing games, practical jokes and animals. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, family and friends.

On Dec. 12, 1980, she married John King. They later divorced.

Survivors include a son, Aaron King of rural Dennis; a daughter, Amber Hodgden and her husband, Kellen, of Erie; two granddaughters, Madalyn and Kylie Hodgden; her mother and stepfather, Sharon and Brian Morton of Parsons; her father and stepmother, John and Chris Spease of Palm Bay, Fla.; three sisters, Kim King of Sitka, Ala., Kathy Kornmesser of Lansing and Tina Spease of Wichita; and a stepbrother, Craig Morton and his wife, Susie, of Olathe.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Parsons. The body will be cremated following the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
