GALESBURG — Iona M. Kramer Cole, 89, a longtime Galesburg area resident, died at 6:07 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on Sept. 5, 1922, at Arlington to Allie and Maudie (Simmonds) Clark. She grew up on a family farm near Pretty Prairie and attended schools there. The family moved to Galesburg when she was a teenager. She attended Galesburg High School.

She married Carl Kramer on June 16, 1939, at Haven. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1988.

She later married John Cole. He preceded her in death in the summer of 1998.

She and Carl farmed near Galesburg for many years. In addition to being a farmwife, she was also a homemaker. She and Carl moved to Galesburg in 1967 when they retired from farming. She moved to Woodridge Estates in 2008 and then to the Presbyterian Manor in 2009.

Iona enjoyed gardening, canning and flowers. She also baked wedding cakes for her family and friends.

She was a member of Galesburg United Methodist Church. She was active in the church women’s group. She also taught Sunday school classes and was a youth leader.

Survivors include a son, John Kramer, and his wife, Janet, of rural Galesburg; two daughters, Judy Farber and her husband, Greg, of Derby and Joyce Ubben and her husband, Jeff, of Rose Hill; a daughter-in-law, Lois Kramer of rural Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Kramer, on Jan. 9, 2002, and three sisters.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Galesburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery at Galesburg. Friends may call Carson-Wall Funeral Home at their convenience.
