MaryEllen Wright, 80, of Parsons died at 10:54 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

She was born on April 30, 1931, at Parsons to James Richard and Winona Velma (Sawtelle) January. She grew up at Parsons and attended Parsons schools, graduating from Parsons High School. She attended Parsons Junior College for a year.

She married Clinton P. Wright Sr. on Dec. 31, 1948, at Parsons. They later divorced.

She worked at Adventure Line and Power Flame and operated a day care center at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church for 19 years.

Survivors include two sons, Clinton “Tip” Wright Jr. of Tuscon, Ariz., and Richard “Dick” Wright of Columbia, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Williams of The Colony, Texas; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Max “Bobby” January and Frank January, both of Raymore, Mo.; and four sisters, Joyce Christenson of Pleasant Ridge, Tenn., Jennie Bolick of Parsons and Sondra Robertson and Linda Nunnick, both of Belton, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lesa Green in 2005; three brothers, J.R. January Jr., Carlyle “Bud” January and Donald January; and a sister, Velma Lee Hartness.

Following cremation, the family will have a private service at a later date.
