He was born on March 22, 1933, in Ramsey, Ill., to Bon S. and Effie (Hill) Moreland. He attended schools in Tiskilwa, Ill.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 73rd Tank Battalion 7th Division during the Korean Conflict.
He married Julie Cassidy on Aug. 1, 1954. They later divorced.
He married Carol Husser on Jan. 26, 1957. They later divorced.
He married Mary Ann Winters on June 8, 1969, in Thorton, Colo. She survives of the home.
He was the pit manager at the Colorado National Speedway in the Denver/Erie, Colo., area for several years.
Other survivors include a son, John A. “John John” Moreland Jr. of Brighton, Colo.; four daughters, Janice Magnuson of Tiskilwa, Ill., Connie Westberg of Ballwin, Mo., Rhonda Knodel of Brighton and Leigh Ann Spilman of Erie; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donald “Pete” Moreland, William “Bill” Moreland, Claude Moreland and Everett Moreland, all of Illinois; and a sister, Gertie Spires of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Avery Westberg; a sister, Gevena Hicks; a brother, Bob Moreland; and an infant brother.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Temple Baptist Church in Erie. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. today at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Eire. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today.
