FRONTENAC — Mildred R. Benthin, 83, of Frontenac, formerly of Galesburg, died at 6:47 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at her home.

She was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Archie, Mo., to Alvin and Mable (Nation) Reed. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Rich Hill and Butler, Mo.

On Oct. 22, 1965, she married Harry A. Benthin Sr. in Carson City, Nev. After marriage, they lived in California until moving to Kansas in 1984. Through the years, she worked at Westbrook Manor and Presbyterian Manor in Parsons as a certified medication aide until retiring in 1995.

She especially enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.

Survivors include three sons, Harry Benthin Jr. and his wife, Dana, of Frontenac, Don Adams and his wife, Barbara, of Yoder, Wyo., and Jimmy Adams and his wife, Marie, of Stayton, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, Mathew, Latryska, Luke, Christiana, Heather, Elizabeth, Brett, Kyle, Destiny, Dawn “Peanut” and Brody; two sisters, Goldie Kiister of rural Oswego and Aliene Padgett of Harrison, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Benthin Sr. on July 5, 1998; three brothers, Clifford, William and Charley; and two sisters, Lorene George and Violet Hubert.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
