LAWTON, Okla. — Johnna Celeste Reed, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, died on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, in Lawton, Okla.

Johnna Celeste Reed was born on July 3, 1923, in South Mound to John Edward and Regina (Volmer) Lortz. She grew up in the South Mound area, graduating from Parsons High School and attending Parsons Junior College.

Johnna married T. Jason Reed on March 2, 1942, at St. Joseph's Church. Johnna and Jason spent most of their married life in the Parsons area, operating several businesses, including a roller skating rink. They moved to central Missouri in the 1970s, where they owned the J&J Motel and Cafe for a number of years. After Jason's death in 1982, Johnna moved back to Southeast Kansas to be near her children, and eventually relocated to Lawton, Okla., with her daughter, Connie.

Some of her happiest times were spent at her son's ranch in Southeast Kansas, painting pictures for her grandchildren. Johnna enjoyed drives through the Wichita Mountains, especially when the wildflowers were blooming.

Johnna was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Daughters of Isabella and the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Parsons. She was a member of the Red Hat Society at Brookridge in Lawton and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Frank Thibodeau of Lawton, Okla.; three sons and daughters-in-law, John and Ivel Reed of Omaha, Neb., Michael and Susan Reed of Schoharie, N.Y., and Dan and Teresa Reed of Oswego; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Jim Strickland and his wife, Vicky, of Oswego; and her sisters, Evelyn Brungardt of St. Paul, Mary Helen McMillan of South Mound and Esther Foreman of Phoenix, Ariz.

Two daughters, Nancy Ann (an infant) and Linda Strickland, and a brother, John Edward Lortz ll, preceded her in death.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
