CHETOPA — Fred J. Bergkamp, 71, of Chetopa died at 1:38 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Oswego Community Hospital.

He was born Jan. 5, 1940, in St. Joseph Ost to Fred Sr. and Elizabeth (May) Bergkamp. He attended elementary school in St. Joseph Ost, was a graduate of Andale High School and attended business college in Wichita. He later served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard Reserves.

He married Lou Ann Eck on July 26, 1961, in St. Marks. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Ann Bergkamp of the home; a son, David Bergkamp of St. Joseph Ost; two grandchildren; a brother, James Bergkamp of Webster City, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Annuschat of Winfield and Lavina Lewis of Mountain View, Calif.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Sunday at the church where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
