Helen B. Myers, 91, a resident of the Elmhaven East, died there at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.

She was born Sept. 19, 1920, at Fort Scott to Beulis F. “Bill” and Mary E. (Palmer) Kautz. She grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School and Kansas State Teachers College, now known as Pittsburg State University.

On June 14, 1945, she married John C. Myers at Vallejo, Calif. After their marriage they lived in California, then in Flagstaff, Ariz., and Pittsburg before making their permanent home in Parsons. Mr. Myers preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1990.

During World War II she was employed at the Kansas Ordnance Plant in Parsons. She worked as a dietary aide at Pittsburg State University and later was employed at the Katy Hospital and the Labette County Medical Center. She had been the manager of the Meals on Wheels Program in Parsons.

She especially enjoyed her family and friends and decorating cakes, baking and sewing. In her youth she became a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Pittsburg. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include a son, Randy Myers of Parsons; two daughters, Gloria Nevin and her husband, Dennis, of rural Parsons and Debi Panek and her husband, Mel, of Parsons; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Kautz of Grove, Okla.; and a sister, Louise Dunlap of Topeka.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Patty Myers; a granddaughter, Morgan Patrice Myers; and two brothers, Bill Kautz and Bud Kautz.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
