GARNETT — Marie Fail McBride, 83, of Garnett, formerly of Parsons, died at 5:10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She was a resident of the Golden Heights Nursing Home in Garnett.

She was born in Parsons on July 9, 1928, to Joe and Ruby (Hanna) Chalker. She graduated from Parsons High School and attended Parsons Junior College. Later, she earned a certificate as a dietary manager from the Coffeyville Community College Vo-Tech School.

On May 25, 1949, she married Marion Fail. They lived in several places in Southeast Kansas, including Garnett, and later were divorced.

She had been employed at the Arkhaven nursing home in Garnett and Elmhaven West in Parsons. She had attended First Baptist Church and First Christian Church in Parsons and was currently a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett.

On July 10, 1991, she married Dale E. McBride. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2006.

Marie was a member of the Lady Elks in Parsons. She loved to dance and enjoyed spending time on her computer.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Fail of Lawrence and Mark Fail and his wife, Jeanne, of Independence, Mo.; three daughters, Cheryl Detwiler and her husband, Mike, of Ottawa, Cathy Brummel and her husband, Dave, of Garnett, and Paula Mader and her husband, Fred, of Ottawa; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Chalker and his wife, Roseann, of Wasilla, Alaska; a sister-in-law, Shirley Chalker of Parsons; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Griffin; and two brothers, Joe Chalker and Hugh Chalker.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Garnett. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery in Parsons.
