EDNA — John R. Foister, 75, of Edna died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.

He was born Jan. 25, 1936, in rural Edna to Jesse and Alta (Hayes) Foister. As a young boy, he grew up in rural Edna where he attended Parkville School and was a 1954 graduate of Edna High School. He worked at John Deere Coffeyville Works as a machinist for 30 years, retiring from there in 1993.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Edna, where he served as a trustee for many years and assisted with the construction of the new church on a daily basis. He was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and was serving as treasurer of Masonic Lodge No. 345 in Edna. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, golfing and following his grandchildren’s sports. He was especially pleased when the Labette County High School softball team presented him a No. 1 fan certificate for his continued support through the years.

He married Martha G. Seger on Oct. 26, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Edna. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Curtis Foister of Coffeyville and Barry Foister and his wife, Tammy, of Piedmont, Okla.; six grandchildren, Seth, Kassady, Jennifer, Karolana, Jaymy and Joseph; a brother, Howard L. Foister and his wife, Jessie, of Edna; a sister, Dorothy F. Ledbetter and her husband, James, of Edna; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Edna. Burial will be in Edna Elm Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
