Bonnie L. Oden, 87, of Parsons died at 1:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Elmhaven West. She had been in failing health.

She was born June 17, 1921, near Independence to Clyde B. and Mary Alyce (Storey) Linscott. The family moved to Cherryvale during her junior high school years and she graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1938.

She again lived in Independence before moving to Parsons in 1955. For 30 years, she was employed as a secretary at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Parsons, where in past years she had taught Sunday school classes and had been an adult leader with the youth group.

In December 1964, she married Otis Oden. He preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2004.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Linscott and Lewis Linscott; and a sister, Edythe Visco.

She was a special friend and adopted mother to Doug and Vickie Rike of Parsons.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hyde officiating and Vickie Rike giving a eulogy. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery.
