CHETOPA — Evelyn T. Parks, 96, of Chetopa died at 11:05 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Chetopa Manor nursing home.

She was born on March 23, 1915, in Craig County, Okla., to Nick and Martha (Uhl) Rohmiller. She was a graduate of Welch High School.

Following high school, she taught in one-room schoolhouses, among them Fields school. She also worked as a clerk at Halligan’s, Price’s and Wedding’s IGA, all in Chetopa.

She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chetopa and its Altar Society. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She married Robert Parks Jr. on Oct. 23, 1934. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1988.

Survivors include a grandson, Mike Miller of Chetopa; four granddaughters, Connie Miller and her friend, Delbert Charlton, Sandy Henry and her husband, Jessie, Pam Midgett and her husband, Jerry, and Nancy McKibben, all of Chetopa; 10 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Nick Rohmiller and his wife, Lavenia, of Miami, Okla.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Miller, in 2006; six brothers, John, Frank, Andrew, Harold, Clarence and Henry Rohmiller; and two sisters, Ann Shields and Esther Lester.

The service will be at 10 a.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa. The rosary was prayed on Monday at the funeral home, where the family received friends immediately following the rosary.
