She was born on July 3, 1912, at Stark to James and Ora (Bennett) Acton. She grew up near Stark and attended country schools and Grant Rural High School, graduating in 1931.
She lived in Pittsburg and Chanute before moving to Erie in 1949. She worked at Richey’s Drug Store, the Home State Bank and at the Neosho County Courthouse in the clerk’s and treasurer’s office. Following her retirement, she worked as an evening attendant at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. She moved to Webb City in 2006 to be near her family.
She married Walker Beard on Sept. 30, 1931, at Stark. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1991.
She was a member of Erie Federated Church. She enjoyed sewing and knitting. She also was a great cook and provided for the care of her husband after he suffered a stroke.
Her survivors include a daughter, Patricia Kessler of Carthage, Mo.; three grandchildren, Nancy McClintock of Webb City, Mo., Dawn Kessler of Pittsburg and David Kessler of Lenexa; six great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Eddie and Albert Acton of Kansas City, Mo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at East Hill Cemetery at Erie. Burial will follow. Friends may call at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie at their convenience.
