CHERRYVALE — Letha L. Butts, 94, of rural Cherryvale died at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Elmhaven East nursing home in Parsons.

She was born on May 29, 1917, in rural Mound Valley in the Penfield area to Albert and Eliza (Spoonamore) Nelson. She grew up in rural Mound Valley and was a 1934 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

She married Braum D. Butts in 1946. Following marriage, they lived in Kansas City, Kan., until returning to Mound Valley in 1950. He preceded her in death in February 1980.

She was a member of Mound Valley United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Homemakers Club, Over 80 Club and the Mound Valley Booster Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.

Survivors include three sons, John Butts and his wife, Barbara, of St. John, Ind., Joe Butts of the home, rural Cherryvale, and Jim Butts and his wife, Becky, of Cherryvale; a daughter, Jane Larsen and her husband, Tim, of Springdale, Ark.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Burial in Mound Valley Cemetery followed a service.
