OSWEGO — Floyd D. “Don” Stammer, 82, a longtime resident of Oswego, and his wife, Verona A. Stammer, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday, July 10, 2011, near Dewey, Okla.

He was born on May 29, 1929, in rural Osage County, Okla., near the Butler Creek community to Del and Edith (Chew) Stammer. He grew up and attended school in the Bartlesville area, where he graduated from College High School.

During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.

He married Verona A. Pryce on June 24, 1950, in Dewey. While he worked in the pipeline business, they lived in various states across the country and settled in Bartlesville, Okla. In 1972, they moved to Oswego, where he worked for Pathfinder Trailers and Atlas Steel Buildings and was a self-employed contractor until retirement. 

He was an active member of Oswego Christian Church, where he had served as elder. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

Survivors include three sons, Keith Stammer and his wife, Kathy, and Karl Stammer and his wife, Pamela, all of Joplin, and Kelly Stammer and his wife, Linnet, of Parsons; eight grandchildren, Karyn Fry, Keesa Stammer, Aaron Stammer, Andrew Stammer, Elizabeth Cochran, Bryan Stammer, Stephen Stammer and Jeffrey Stammer; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jule Maskrod, Herald Del Stammer and Joseph Stammer; and two sisters, Joan Lewis and Betty Lewis.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Oswego Christian Church. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
