VINITA, Okla. — Dora “Bell” Simmons, 93, of Vinita, Okla., died on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Rosewood Terrace in Vinita. 

She was born on April 23, 1918, in Melissa, Texas, to Henry and Martha Stice Ferguson. 

She married Preston Simmons on Aug. 14, 1933. 

She retired from Eastern State Hospital after many years. After retiring, she was able to start her hobby of making quilts for her children and most of her grandchildren. She also liked to crochet and go fishing with her grandchildren. Her family was her life.

Survivors include Maxine Madl and her husband, Fred, of Ketchum, Okla., Lee Simmons and his wife, Karen, of Vinita, Mary Johnson of Sherman, Texas, Jesse Simmons and his wife, Lois, of Springfield, Mo., Tom Simmons and his wife, Celia, of Oswego, Palula Carr and her husband, Tom, of Springdale, Ark., Danny Simmons and his wife, Janice, of Afton, Okla., Linda Gibson and her husband, Cloyd, of Oswego; 57 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jimmie Lee Brown of Lucerne Valley, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Simmons; a son, H.L. Simmons; two sisters, Francis Epperson and Julie Buckalew; and a brother, Walter Ferguson.

The service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, with Pastor Leland Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at Bluejacket Cemetery.
