Lucinda M. “Lucy” Pearce, 78, of Parsons died at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Elmhaven East.

She was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Pittsburg to Lorenza Dow and Frances Marie (Snow) Wort. She attended country schools in Frontenac three years before moving with her family to McCune, where she graduated high school. Following high school, she attended Labette Community College in Parsons.

She married Elbert Harris on Jan. 23, 1959, in McCune. After marriage, they moved to Arlington, Texas, where they lived eight years. He preceded her in death in May 1964.

Upon her return to Parsons in 1967, she worked as a recreational therapist at Elmhaven West and Retirement Acres in Altamont and also as a caregiver for individuals in their homes. Since 1989, she has been caregiver to her son, Danny.

She was a member of the former Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Parsons and the Parsons Area Iris Society.

She married Jim Pearce on Jan. 3, 1970, in Parsons. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Danny Harris of Parsons and E. Shane Harris of Bellevue, Neb.; two daughters, Brenda Cook and her husband, Stuart, of Pittsburg and Jina Bienz and her husband, John, of Olathe; four grandchildren, Maggie Cook, Joshua Cook, Andrew Cook and Jared Grady; a great-grandson, Bryan Wilkinson; a brother, L. Dow Wort and his wife, Virginia, of Parsons; and four sisters, Fern Mendez and her husband, Ernest, of Springfield, Mo., Mildred Butts and her husband, Ken, of Caney, Elsie Leach and her husband, Frank, of Oronogo, Mo., and Loretta Zuck and her husband, Bill, of Bellevue, Neb.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
