CHETOPA — Elmer "Junior" Cunningham died Friday, June 17, 2011, in Chetopa Manor in Chetopa after a four-month illness.
He was born April 2, 1922, in Bartlett, Hackberry Township, the 13th of 15 children born to George Elmer and Elizabeth Pearl (Wadsack) Cunningham.
On Sept. 21, 1946, he married Gail Louise Wilson at the Methodist parsonage in Oswego by the Rev. Emery Dains. He was baptized in the Methodist Church in December 1997.
Junior lived in Labette County his entire life and was a farmer. He had a unique ability to remember dates and numbers.
He is survived by a sister, Maurine Turner of Parsons; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gail; his parents; five brothers; and eight sisters.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Derfelt Funeral Home in Oswego. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church of Oswego or Oswego Parks and Community Foundation.
