INDEPENDENCE — Donald "Don" Thompson, 59, of Independence died on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1952, in Independence to Donald D. and Gertrude (Cook) Thompson. He graduated from Independence High School and attained some college credits.

He worked at The Store in Independence for several years and then bought The Store and was the owner and operator for several years.

Survivors include a brother, Larry Thompson of Independence; and five sisters, Nancy Smith and Shirley Smith, both of Independence, Janett Robinson of Edna, Esther Wentworth of Mesa, Ariz., and Gladys Muckey of Auroa, Colo.

Cremation has occurred. There will be a book signing from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Potts Chapel, Independence, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested for A.W.O.L. and may be left at the funeral home.
