ALTOONA — Floyd A. Russell, 80, a lifetime resident of rural Altoona, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
He was born July 30, 1930, in Neodesha the son of Charley E. and Sadie (Carver) Russell. Floyd attended school in Altoona, where he graduated in 1948.
He married Margaret J. Green on Oct. 17, 1954, at Altoona United Methodist Church. She survives at their home.
Floyd spent his lifetime operating the family farm and distributing fertilizer, most recently for Yield Plus Fertilizers, Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church and chairman of the board of trustees. Floyd received his 50-year pin from the Masonic Lodge in Benedict in 2009. He was also a board member of the Altoona Jamboree and past member of the Altoona Midway School Board and the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include five children, Debra Meigs of Altoona, Linda and Roosevelt Rogers of Parker, Colo., Patricia Russell of Chanute, Michael and Kim Russell of Altoona, Kathy and Larry Klauman of Chanute; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren on the way; and two brothers, Harold Russell of Wichita and Dale Russell of Neodesha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Laverna Hyde, Dorothy Deshasier and Edith Russell; and a son, Mark Alan Russell.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Altoona United Methodist Church with Pastor Jose Miranda officiating. Burial will be in Altoona Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Timmons Funeral Home in Fredonia.
