THAYER — Mary Alice Hughes, 81, of Thayer died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1929, in Thayer to Roy McNutt and Beulah (Meigs) McNutt. She graduated from Thayer High School in 1947.

She married Carl Wayne Hughes on June 19, 1949, at First Nazarene Church in Neodesha. She worked for Thayer schools for 11 years.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Wayne Hughes of the home; a son, Bill W. Hughes; three daughters, Barbara Sue Wright, Virginia Lee Blackburn and Nancy Thornton, all of Thayer; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother, Bill McNutt of Whitney, Texas; and a sister, Freda Roach of Lumberton, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Vera Lee Arnold.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Thayer Christian Church. Burial will be in Neodesha City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha.
