He was born on July 25, 1929, in Chetopa to Charles J. and Ella M. (Madewell) Wagner. As a young boy, he grew up in Chetopa, where he attended school and graduated from Chetopa High School.
He married Dawna Ballard on Sept. 9, 1950, in Oswego.
He worked in construction building skyscrapers.
Survivors include his wife, Dawna Wagner of the home; three daughters, Merrita Short and Shawna Wagner, both of Webb City, Mo., and Rebecca DoByns of Columbus; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Marguerite Jones of Columbus and Ella Mae Krider of Chetopa.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Eugene Wagner.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Baptist Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
