OSWEGO — Ethel Maye Correll Hoy, 89, of Oswego died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 6:05 a.m. at Elmhaven West in Parsons.

She was born April 26, 1922, in Chetopa to William and Myrtle (Carr) Bryant. She attended Chetopa schools.

She married Willis Correll on Dec. 22, 1940, in Oswego. He preceded her in death in Feb. 20, 1989.

Maye worked at several places. She worked for The Broderick Co. almost 10 years and the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant for almost 10 years. In 1977 she opened Maye’s Fabric Shop in Oswego. After selling the shop in 1979, she began working as a youth counselor at Elm Acres Girls Group Home in Columbus. She always said this was her most rewarding job. In 1989 she went to work for Wal-Mart in Parsons. She retired in 1999.

On April 22, 2000, she married Kenneth Hoy. He departed this world on May 29, 2008. She moved to Westside Homes in Oswego in June 2008.

She enjoyed her church, serving in many capacities. But her greatest joy came from working with the youth. She loved to listen to gospel music.

Survivors include a son, Bob Correll and his wife, Debbie, of Independence; two daughters, Kaye French of Ida, La., and Pattie Humphrey of Midland, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Jewell Correll of Fairland, Okla.; a stepson, Tony Hoy of Dearing; three stepdaughters, Renee Mies of Parsons, Sajonna Trotnic of Oswego and Mikel Miller of Wichita; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and a son, Sonny Correll, on Oct. 9, 2009.

A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Oswego with Pastor John Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Oswego Cemetery.
