Helen Marie Wages, 83, of Parsons died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, in Derby.

She was born Nov. 16, 1927, in Arkansas City to Frank and Bessie (Preble) Blevins.

On April 24, 1943, she married John William Wages in Fredonia. They lived in Parsons following their marriage. Mr. Wages preceded her in death on May 14, 2003.

She worked at numerous jobs during her life. Her favorite was being a mother and grandmother.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Wages and his wife, Kay, of Topeka, and Larry Wages and his wife, Mary, of New Albany, Miss.; a daughter, Janice Lett and her husband, Bud, of Derby; six grandchildren, Thad (DiAnne) Wages of Austin, Texas, Kamille (Jeremy) Lamb of Topeka, Sheli (Scott) McClellan of New Albany, Miss., Mason Wages of Oxford, Miss., Todd (Jessica) Hatfield of Rose Hill and Amy Hatfield of Melbourne, Fla.; three stepgrandchildren, Trisha Lett Butler of Lenexa, Jamie (Joel) Shaw of Lake Waukomis, Mo., and Jeremy Lett of Derby; 15 great-grandchildren, Heather (Craig) Heady of Joplin, T.J. Hatfield of Parsons, Kaleb and John Hatfield of Rose Hill, Aniston and twins Garrett and Graham McClellan of New Albany, Miss., Lorren Koger of Melbourne, Fla., Haily Koger of Overland Park and Kyler, Kinsey and Jensen Lamb of Topeka; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley Padgett and Braden Lett of Parsons and Stella Shaw of Lake Waukomis, Mo.; three great-great-grandchildren, Devan Heady of Joplin, Natalie Sullivan of Overland Park and Tatun Ingalsbe of Parsons; a brother, Jack Blevins of St. Peters, Mo.; and a sister, Lois Kemp of Derby.

She was preceded in death by two children, John Robert “J.R.” and Tammy Wages; a stepgrandson, Ryan Lett; two sisters; and four brothers.

The service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Following the service family members will greet friends at a reception at the funeral home. Burial will be on Monday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
