WICHITA — Mary J. (Shaw) Wiseman, 76, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011.

She was born on April 10, 1935, in Labette County to Jack L. and Lela (Carson) Shaw.

She married Glenn R. Wiseman on April 10, 1955, at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego. They moved to Wichita in 1957, where they became charter members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. After their children were in school, Mary resumed her college career, graduating magna cum laude from Sacred Heart (now Newman University) and subsequently worked 20-plus years as a social worker at the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Glenn R. Wiseman; three daughters, Valerie A. Wiseman, M.D., and her husband, Tom Smith, and their three sons, Sean, Glenn and Jack of Avon, Conn., Victoria Kindel, M.D., and her husband, John, and their three sons, Simon, Oliver and Elliot, and Vanessa Harshberger and her husband, Steve, and their three children, Seth, Stephanie and Steven, all of Wichita; a brother, Clark Shaw of Hendersonville, Ky.; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and an avid bridge player.

The rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
