CHETOPA — Elva OhDean Meadows, 87, of Chetopa died at 10:10 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Chetopa Manor. She had been in failing health.
She was born Dec. 22, 1923, near Mulberry, Ark., to Henry Clay and Estella Josephine (Root) McGaugh. She graduated from high school in Coyville, Kan.
On Sept. 17, 1942, in Reno, Nev., she married Harry L. “Shorty” Meadows. She and her husband operated Meadows Auto Body, where she worked as bookkeeper.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Meadows of Republic, Mo., and Stan Meadows of Chetopa; three daughters, Gloria Meadows of Joplin, Linda Guinn of Coffeyville and Deanna Meadows of Chetopa; 16 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Don McGaugh of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Kathryn McGaugh of Bartlesville, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Meadows, on July 12, 2007; and four brothers.
A private graveside service will be at Oak Hill Cemetery at Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
