COLUMBUS — Gia Reve’ Bates, 68, Columbus, died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
She was born May 7, 1942, in Pittsburg the daughter of Max and Georgia (Gilbert) Bates. She received her master’s in social work from Ohio State University in 1966.
In 1968 she earned credentials for Academy of Social Workers and in 1987 a licensed specialist in social work and became a board certified diplomat in clinical social work. She worked for 20 years in Dayton, Ohio, at Ohio Children’s Services and Family Services Association.
She worked at Labette Center for Mental Health Services for 18 years and retired in 1986.
Survivors include her mother, Georgia Bates of Columbus; a sister, Gay Morgan and her husband, Robert; two nieces; two nephews; three great-nieces; six great-nephews; and one very special great-great-niece, Leah Martin.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Murdock Funeral Home in Columbus with The Rev. Clarence Newman officiating.
Burial will follow in Park Cemetery.
