FORT SCOTT — The Rev. Deane Douglas Endicott, 82, of Fort Scott died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe.

He was born Nov. 22, 1928, in Bly, Mo., the son of Thurlo Washington and Launa Effie Rogers Endicott. He graduated from Labette County High School.

He married Wilma Deane Richardson on June 24, 1949, in the Altamont Baptist Church.

He worked in his early years for Cessna Aircraft and Boeing Aircraft until he answered the call into the ministry of the gospel in 1957. During his ministry, the Rev. Endicott served as pastor for 12 churches as well as serving as interim pastor for nine other churches, all in Kansas. His last pastorate was serving as the senior adult pastor at First Baptist Church in Fort Scott.

He was a mentor to many throughout his ministry. He possessed a special gift for the visitation of the homebound and hospitalized. His passion for souls drove his wish for everyone to know Jesus and experience salvation. His last days were given to ministering to the doctors and nurses overseeing his care. He enjoyed woodworking as well as boating, fishing and camping.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Scott.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of the home; a son, Garry Ray Endicott and his wife, Kathy, of Springville, Ala.; a daughter, Rita Kay Tiegreen and her husband, John, of Fort Scott; two sisters-in-law, Alice Endicott of Smithville, Mo., and Jackie Endicott of Emporia; as well as five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Don, Philip and Walter Endicott; and an infant sister, Lois Endicott.

The Revs. Thad Endicott, Marty DeWitt and Tim Davish will conduct the service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Fort Scott. Burial will be in Uniontown Cemetery with Matt Bookout officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in Cheney Witt Chapel in Fort Scott.
