Brian K. Burger, 49, of Parsons died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2011, at his home. His death was unexpected.
He was born Aug. 31, 1961, in Oswego to Richard S. and Karen L. (Phillips) Burger. He grew up and attended schools near Altamont and was a 1979 graduate of Labette County High School. He later attended college two years and was enrolled at Labette Community College, where he was working toward a degree in physical therapy.
Through the years, he was employed by The Flesh Co. in Parsons, the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center and Southeast Kansas Independent Living. He was currently employed by CLASS Ltd.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Altamont. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and reading and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Brian was a very caring person and strong advocate for those who called him “caregiver.”
He married Linda K. Huerter on May 3, 1997, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his parents, Richard and Karen Burger of Oswego; three brothers, Richard Burger and his wife, Cindy, of Parsons, David Burger and his wife, Micki, of Tulsa, and Kevin Burger of Phoenix; an aunt, Rosetta Shanks of Oswego; a nephew; four nieces; and a father-in-law, Robert Huerter of Chanute.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
