She and her twin sister, the late Louise Walker, were born on Feb. 2, 1913, in Parsons to Truman and Inez (Grimes) Bidwell. Mr. Bidwell died in the 1918 flu epidemic. Later, Mrs. Bidwell married Harve Bendure, who helped raise the family.
She attended Parsons schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1931. In 1932 and 1933, she attended nurse’s training at Bell Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
On June 17, 1934, she married William K. Quarles at Central Avenue Christian Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1984.
Lucille was employed at the Kansas Ordnance Plant from 1950 to 1952 and then at the JCPenney Co. store in Parsons for 19 years. After retiring, she worked for several years at Guthridge Elementary School. For several years, she worked as an attendant at the Parsons Historical Museum.
She was a member of First Christian Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Ladies Auxiliary to the United Transportation Union and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
Survivors include a son, William K. Quarles Jr. of Hidden Hills, Calif.; two daughters, Joan Tedstrom of Wildwood, Fla., and Mary Jane Blair of Vinita, Okla.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three sisters, her twin Louise Bidwell Walker, Merle Bidwell Stocks and Ethelyn Bendure, who died at age 2.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
