He was born to William “Bill” and Mary Hilderbrand at Turner, Mo. As a small child, he moved to the Faulkner and Chetopa community and attended school at the Pleasant Valley and Chetopa school system. He graduated from Chetopa High School in 1936.
On Aug. 24, 1940, he married Nadine Turner at the Columbus Christian parsonage by the Rev. A.L. Johnson.
Later he and his wife moved to a farm south of Faulkner, where they lived until retiring. Cloyed and Nadine moved to Chetopa for six years and then later moved to Columbus, where they spent their remaining years.
He loved to farm and enjoyed his cattle, picking pecans and especially bowling and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years; and a granddaughter, Leigh Ann McWilliams and her husband, James, of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Joyce Wilcox and her husband, Fred; and two brothers, Sunny and Lawrence Hilderbrand.
The graveside service was on Monday at Park Cemetery in Columbus with the Revs. Jeff Wary and Roger Beason officiating. Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg is in charge of arrangements.
