Rick J. Hinman, 55, of Parsons died at 8 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1955, in Parsons to Ernest Wilson and Elnora Catherine (Stover) Hinman. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons and was a graduate of Parsons High School.

Through the years, he worked in construction for Lou Long and Rick Hizey before working as a brakeman at the Katy Railroad. From 1992 to 2004, he worked at Beachner Construction before becoming a self-employed general contractor.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Parsons. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and camping. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.

He married Kimberly J. Clifton on Jan. 5, 1991, in Parsons. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Adam “Willie” Hinman and his companion, Mandy Hyslope, of Altamont and Jason Cruse and his wife, Samantha, of Blue Springs, Mo.; four daughters, Mindy Hinman and her husband, Billy Garcia, of Wyandotte, Okla., Alyssa Hinman of the home, Alison Hinman of the home and Shannon Gilpin and her husband, Bryan, of Douglass; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Kay Shonk and her husband, Don, of Coffeyville and Thressa Volmer and her husband, Gene, of Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ernie “Bud” Hinman and Bob Hinman.

The service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Parsons Nazarene Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
