ALTAMONT — Ellis V. Ferguson, 85, of Altamont went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 12:25 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Elmhaven East nursing home in Parsons.

He was born June 17, 1925, in rural Cherokee County to Chesley and Maude (Davolt) Ferguson.

He married Norma Lee Foss on May 27, 1946, at Faulkner Christian Church in Faulkner. He farmed in Cherokee County and worked in the oil fields of western Kansas before moving to Altamont in 1954. He then worked in construction until 1965, at which time he started working at the Katy Railroad diesel shop, retiring in 1988.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Altamont, where he had served as deacon, trustee and Sunday School teacher. He served on the Altamont City Council from 1975 to 1979 and was also a member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local Union No. 53. He enjoyed time spent with his family and especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren fishing.

Survivors include his loving and loyal wife of 64 years, Norma Lee, of the home, Altamont; a son, Victor Lee Ferguson and his wife, Brigitte, Weilerbach, Germany; three daughters, Martha Ann Miller and her husband, Alan, rural Parsons, Rose Mary Ferguson, Carl Junction, Mo., and Laura Sue Bennett and her husband, Stephen, rural McCune; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Ferguson and his wife, Arzella, Overland Park and LG “Bill” Ferguson and his wife, Janet, of Winooski, Vt.; a sister, Letha Snow and her husband, C.A., of Granbury, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Clifford and Ray; two infant brothers, Elmer and Dale; a sister, Freda Johnson; and a great-grandson, Briar Lee Miller.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in the Oswego Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Friends also may call at their convenience at the family home located at 907 E. Fifth St., Altamont.

The family has requested no cut or blooming flowers. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Altamont or to the Pioneers, sponsors of great-niece Amber Blummer and her husband, Mike. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, 67330.
