He was born Aug. 7, 1924, at Chetopa to Julius C. and Marchie Edith (Blundell) Ramsey. He attended school in Chetopa until 1934, when the family moved to Oswego. He graduated from Oswego High School and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.
He was inducted into military service with the U.S. Army on June 18, 1943. During World War II, he served with the 1901st Engineer Aviation Battalion and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged on March 13, 1946. He joined the 930th Ordnance, which was activated on Aug. 14, 1950. Later he was transferred to the 357th Ordnance Co. at Fort Sill, Okla., and was then sent to Germany. He was discharged on Oct. 14, 1952.
He worked at Galvin's I.G.A. Store and Williamson's Furniture in Oswego, Ankortite Products and White Electric in Parsons and C.&H. Electric in Parsons, which he purchased in 1974 and managed until he retired in 1984 because of ill health.
He was a member of the Church of the Brethren and of the I.B.E.W. No. 226, for which he served as local business manager. He was active in American Legion baseball, serving as a manager, and was active in bowling leagues and the Parsons Katy Golf Club. He worked as an adult leader with the Boy Scouts and taught electricity classes at Labette Community College and electrical apprentice schools for the I.B.E.W. He was a life member of the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
On Dec. 17, 1944, he married Ramona J. Edwards at Labette City. They had lived in Parsons since 1950 and recently observed their 64th wedding anniversary. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jacque Lynn Ramsey of Denver and Michele McCready of Parsons; a daughter-in-law, Margie Ramsey of Parsons; five grandchildren and their spouses, Melanie and Marc Neighbor of Overland Park, Doug and Sweta Ramsey of Dallas, Michael and Jessica Ramsey of Parsons, Katherine and Joe Esposito of Parsons and Samuel McCready of Parsons; and nine great-grandchildren, Chloe Neighbor, Kailee Ramsey, Atticus Ramsey, Jonas Ramsey, Blake McCready, Isabella Ramsey, Michael Ramsey Jr., Katie Florence and Ashtyn Esposito.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Kenneth Owen Ramsey on April 22, 1948, and Richard Ray Ramsey on July 25, 2000; a great-granddaughter, Raylen Brook Ramsey on Dec. 15, 2000; and twin great-grandsons, Damien James and Brian Wayne McCready on Nov. 25, 2002.
At his request there will be cremation and no service. Eventually he will be buried at Oswego Cemetery.
