Arthur L. Hill Sr.
Arthur L. Hill Sr., 97, of Parsons, died at 11 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at his home in rural Parsons.
He was born Sept. 11, 1910, at Harmon, Okla., to Thomas and Sadie (Abercrombie) Hill. He attended schools and graduated from high school in Blackwell, Okla.
In 1931 his family moved to the Galesburg/Thayer area where he met Amelia Taylor. They were married on Jan. 31, 1933, at Erie.
They moved to Parsons in 1934 where Mr. Hill worked as a carpenter/contractor for 32 years. During this time he was in partnership with Ted Bayless, his brother, Harry Hill, and later his son, Arthur "Mick" Hill. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters for 60 years.
He kept a cabin at Grand Lake, where he enjoyed fishing and water sports. As an avid sports fan he liked it all from the pros to his grandchildrens' athletic events. He loved reading, helping family members with their projects, working with cattle and maintaining a large garden every year. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors of the house include his wife of 75 years, Amelia Hill; a son, Arthur "Mick" Hill Jr. of Parsons; a daughter, Lorraine Thompson of Parsons; six grandsons, Fletcher Hill, Zachary Hill and his wife, Lori, Roger Thompson of Parsons, Stuart Thompson and his wife, Kelley, all of Parsons, Marshall Hill and his wife, Tami, of Carl Junction, Mo., and Lincoln Hill of Crandall, Texas; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lois Bowles of Grass Valley, Calif.; and a niece, Christine Young of Thayer.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester, Howard, Warren and Harry Hill; and his daughter-in-law, Patti Hill.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will revieve friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
